So, it’s October and fall has officially started…. And almost passed us by….. This means boots and scarves are fair play but maybe questionable in Texas depending on the weather. This time a year also marks an important event in Dallas and that’s the Texas State Fair!!!!! I’ve been going almost every year since I can remember and will definitely make it a tradition for my family in the future.
The Texas State Fair was created back in 1887 after two smaller rival events, the Dallas State Fair and the Texas State Fair, joined together to create the Texas State Fair and Expo. Ever since then, Texas has made history with one of the best state fairs around.
This year the hubby and I took to the fair on a Thursday night right after work. Thursdays are half price food days and everyone knows the fair is all about food!!! I mean, people here in Dallas are serious about their fair food! It’s turned into a crazy show…. Every year there’s a competition to see who can come up with the craziest & tastiest deep fried tid bit and you can bet we have some pretty outrageous ones. The winner this year was Fried Jell-O. I wasn’t feeling that so I didn’t try it but for all Jell-O lovers out there, this won the Best Taste award. Some other crazies were the Deep Fried Bacon Burger Sliders on a Stick, Southern Fried Chicken and Dumplings, Injectable Great Balls of BBQ, and Fernie’s Down Home Chicken Pot Pie Pocket with Mac & Cheese Dip.
I really wanted to try the Chicken Pot Pie but I searched all over and couldn’t find it 😦
No worries, I have my staples. I have my go-to’s that I just come back to year after year. I even know where their booths are so you know that’s serious! Anyways, below are a few of the snackums that the hubby and I tried this year.
Every bite was junk food delicious but by the end of the night, we could barely walk. It was so worth the million calories but the following day I just had to juice; I felt like I had eaten enough for the week. Don’t let that discourage you though, I promise it’s worth it.
I know, I’ve ranted about nothing but food but I promise the Texas State Fair is so much more. Each year there’s a livestock exposition, theres a bunch of vendors from arts and crafts to local honeys, jams and jellies, home décor/appliances and more. There’s also petting zoos for the kidos, games galore, car shows, parades, light and water spectaculars, fireworks, museums, etc… So now you know, if you’re ever in Dallas sometime late September or early October, check out the fair dates. I promise it will not disappoint, there’s fun for everyone.
Till next time…
